yxetm+
yxetm+ is the alias of sound artist of Yurihito Watanabe (born in 1962), who performs live with laptop, field recording and vocals. Not so much as means of fixed expression, Watanabe translates music and lyrics in terms of "occurrences" in space and time. His improvisations open up spaces of intense vibrations, whereas his voice, located "nowhere" as Watanabe chants in one of his lyrics, is a reminder of irreversible time and death, unveiling the "inner ache" of human existence.
Watanabe extracts the soundscapes and textures from various literary and musical sources, including medieval manuscripts and music by Hildegard von Bingen, Noh plays, baritone of modern French songs by Charles Panzera, compositions by Giacinto Scelsi and Morton Feldman, as well as texts by Dante, Poe, Nerval, Mallarmé, and Paul Celan.
yxetm+ has performed at galleries in Tokyo as well as
the LEM Festival in Barcelona. His sound installations have been shown at
the Raketenstation Hombroich in Germany, at the Victoria & Albert Museum
in London and the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art.
